Foundation License Course Prize Draw

For all successful licensees who pass through our Foundation License Training Course, we will be entering their name into a draw to win a handheld radio, to help their radio station get off to a start!

What do I need to win?

To be entered into the draw, all you need to do is pass the ARES Foundation License Training Course and apply for your callsign through Ofcom. Once you do so, your name will automatically be entered into a draw at the next ARES meeting, and the name drawn out will be awarded the handheld!

What do I win?

The model is currently not decided upon, but you will win a dual band (144MHz/430MHz) FM handheld transceiver capable of around 5W on both bands. This will allow you to access the local repeaters in Northern Ireland relatively easy, and with an external antenna, reach much greater distances. They are also useful for scanning local VHF/UHF radio transmissions, if you fancy a bit of listening in.

Why do you need to pass the course to be entered?

The reason is simple; the transceiver we are offering is operated in the amateur radio bands, and you need a license to fully utilise its features. It is illegal to transmit at all, without a license. For this reason, only successful applicants who attain their license qualification will be entered into the draw.
